But doing so forces him to confront the one wish he never saw coming—the wish that will destroy him.

Review: Come, The Dark: Cordovae's Journey (Forever Girl Series Book Two) - 5 stars!

Get It On Amazon Kindle

Rose desperately wants to escape the abuse of the father who impregnated her and the dark spirits that haunt her life. Being thrust from Georgia 1961 into the era of Salem’s infamous witch trials isn’t what she had in mind, and now her daughter is left hopelessly out of reach.

The only way to return to her daughter is by facing certain death to banish the dark spirits that plague Salem. If she doesn’t eliminate these dark spirits in time, they will destroy civilization and trap her in this strange new place, ages away from her daughter.

Even if she can complete the task in time to return home to save her daughter, there’s still one problem: she’s falling in love with a man who can’t return with her. Achieving her goals will force her to choose between the only man who has never betrayed her and a daughter she can’t quite remember but will never forget.

A heart-wrenching tale of a mother’s love for her daughter, this romantic paranormal fantasy underlines the depravity of both historical and modern society while capturing the essence of sacrifice and devotion.

TRIGGER WARNING: This book deals with the sensitive subject of sexual abuse. There is a thread in the Come, the Dark forum at the bottom of this page discussing the issue and how it is handled within the book.

My Thoughts:

5 Stars!
This is not a book as much as it is true art!

Every once in a while I find a book that's so good it leaves me lost for words. Not a normal occurrence, I assure you!

On occasion I've re-read a particular book I've really enjoyed, though never before have I done so within days of the previous read. This is one of those incredible, immediate re-read books!

Come, the Dark is filled with emotions, some of which I truly believe only a woman who has given birth could understand so intuitively. The draw, the heartbreak, the all out *need* to return to a child lost.

The author maintains an intensity throughout the book that, so far, I've found unmatched in other books of a similar nature. Her education or research on subject matter is very clear. She knows of what she writes and relays it well.

There was so much information to take in on this work, so much detail given to the reader, that even the second time around I found myself truly intrigued, spellbound, and turning the pages with such anticipation.

I won't go into the content of the book, as I can see many other reviews have already done so, but I will say, in my opinion, Come, the Dark is a highly recommended read, especially for pagan lovers.

Rebecca Hamilton has once again bound her works to my automatic TBR list, without a doubt.

It all started with the Forever Girl, and I've become a forever fan after this amazing novel!

The Zombie Apocalypse Meets Groundhog Day! REVIEW: Never Say Die, A Zombie Time Loop Story by Kimberly Gould

Get It On Amazon Kindle
Get It In Paperback

4 of 5 stars!
The story is told in first person POV, which I'm not generally fond of but Kimberly Gould does it quite well. The content is rich, not repetitive despite the overlapping style of the plot.

I found the story engaging, encouraging this reader to flip to the next page just to see what happens next.

*****Potential Spoiler Alert!*****

Ms. Gould nails it as she tells a gripping tale of Cassy and Heph battling against the meat sacks (zombies).

Only, for Cassy it happens again and again, her death being the one thing she relives that seems to restart the clock. (Think Groundhog Day)

The methods she chooses to deal with it, to attempt to survive this time around, are determined by what she perceives to be her mistakes in the last round.

Each time she wakes up on the beach after having her throat ripped out by a meat sack, and every time she seems to remember what went on before, what worked and what didn't, leading her down a path that, hopefully, won't be to her detriment yet again.

There's many emotions, trials and tribulations this author makes her protagonist go through in her structured and detailed world building, each giving its own set of circumstances and detail that leads Cassy to her choices the next time around. Some of these details are pertinent to understanding why Cassy does some of the things she does. I found myself questioning her actions only to realize why shortly thereafter when something works this time around - for a short while anyway.

One thing almost always remains the same, and I liked that it did, despite attacking the issues over and over again her best friend always makes his way back to her side. The two of them may just make it out of this alive yet!
Of course, you'll have to read for yourself to see if that's the case.

There were a few minor editing issues, but nothing to really detract me from the well written and excellently executed content of the story and obviously not truly within the control of the author as this work is under a publisher. This is somewhat unfortunate but even editors are human.

I call this a highly recommended read if you're into the gore and guts of nasty zombies!

Nicely done, Ms. Gould. I do hope I will find future books of this nature from you!

Hells Angel by Kim Faulks: Recommended Read for Horror & Paranormal Enthusiasts

Recommended Read for Horror & Paranormal Enthusiasts: Not for the faint of heart.
Blood, Gore, graphic descriptions of murder and death.
4.5 stars

Hells Angel by Kim Faulks

Professional opinion:

Hells Angel is a fast paced, gripping read with twists and turns that go from terrifying the reader with the author's gruesome descriptions, to making one feel sorrow and empathy for the characters and the tribulations they've lived through.

The author has skillfully made both of the  protagonists into people you are actually concerned about, have come to almost care for, and want to know how they solve their difficulties and how things will turn out. IF things will turn out at all.

Her descriptions of each character, both primary and secondary, are masterfully crafted in such a way that a reader is able to envision their features, actions and even pick up the individual personality traits, mannerisms written in for each.

Each each chapter, almost each scene reveals a little more information on the entirety of the book, keeping the reader's attention and providing more depth to each character's situation as it progresses.

The book detailed the scenes, the stench of death, the feel of murder and extreme gore with so much blood shed throughout it was almost visual, but the author has combined it all with feelings, compassion, evil doing good and eventually, a reason for it all.

The ending was a surprising twist that may have been hinted at during the course of the book but not really revealed completely until the very end.

Personal Notes:

I couldn't put it down once I'd started. The plot is so intense that unless you understand, have a passion for the genre, and really READ the words on the page, you couldn't possibly understand the climactic end to the journeys of the characters within. In fact, I'm hoping Ms. Faulks writes a sequel to the Hunter & Kellah story.  One with a little more of where this Demon and her hunter end up next...

The only drawback from this reader's perspective would be the lack of proper copyediting.
Thankfully it wasn't enough to distract from the overall enjoyment of the book, but, if an editor was paid to copy edit this book then I suggest getting a refund.  If one wasn't used, then the author has done themselves a great disservice and should sincerely consider one for this and future books.
I am however, quite critical when it comes to proper editing. This could very well be a book published by the "Big 6" and still contain similar, or possibly more errors.

I look forward to reading more of Kim Faulks in the near future.
Well done Ms. Faulks
